City of Mississauga has launched a comprehensive community plan to create a vibrant neighbourhood. The City staff, Council for the City of Mississauga and the community collaborated to create the new strategic plan so as to make it an urban place. The current vision for the downtown is to create memorable places and reinforce the pedestrian experience. This urban planning movement focuses on smart growth and new urbanism.

The master urban plan is based on certain principles that help in enhancing transportation facilities, development of a multicultural place and economic development.

The first guiding step of the development plan recommends that development patterns should be designed in a way to facilitate walking, cycling, job or housing services should be at nearby places to each other. The second point stresses on organizing downtown in unique districts to promote cultural values and education. The third point emphasises on the employment of LEED building practices for further development, storm water management practices and development of ENVAC. The fourth point details a framework that defines the future streets and the design standards of buildings. The fifth point focuses on creating a new Main Street ,that would be established to facilitate job sector, housing and education. The sixth point describes the efforts required to enhance economic and urban vitality.

Downtown framework plan consists of collection of districts: Confederation, Square One, Hurontario, Main Street, Sussex, Mississauga Valley, Civic District, Clearly Park and Rathburn. The plan explains the set of new streets and its land usage, details of the redo related to streets framework. Generally speaking the plan will improve the City’s grid.

Downtown 21 master development plan helps to target action, projects, partnerships and all organizational structures in order to implement the plan. The plan focuses on the Main Street District in order to establish a development momentum in downtown.

Downtown Mississauga may be called the civic centre of the city. As, it is the most intense growth area possessing many employment opportunities with transit support, so that is why it is selected for further development. Down town has potential for more development intensity due to its several transits. Further development will promote recreation and will also protect ecosystem.

The future framework plan envisions new streets, greenways and transits and represents a long term build out of Mississauga downtown.

Due to start of new projects, signs of progress are obvious including the planned Parkside Village city community and 15 storey high rise buildings are expected to fill up rapidly. Shopping malls, restaurants, entertainment areas are growing in order to ease homeowners.

Due to the demographics of Mississauga City Centre, the city is attracting immigrants, businessman and young professionals for living and various employment opportunities.

Mississauga’s Rapid Transit Plan reflects a strategic vision which is specially formulated to meet the challenges that are related to future growth. This segment of Bus Rapid Transit will basically provide advantages to businesses, specific offices in the City Centre and which are near Pearson International Airport. This airport is the second largest employment area in the GTA region.

BRT network will ease residents and offer businesses of the city newer ways of commuting. This plan consists of two key components:

a) BRT (Bus rapid transit) along highway 403/Elington Corridor

This plan will help to ease traffic congestion in GTA. It’s a planned network that extends from Oakville to Pickering. BRT will help to interconnect present rail commutes and subways. BRT road way is designed especially to be used by buses. BRT will provide a two way commuting route in to Toronto because more people travel to work into Mississauga.

b) Higher order transit that is BRT or light rapid transit which is along Hurontario street corridor.

The other component of the transit strategy i.e. Higher order transit system addresses Hurontario corridor, which is the most busy and fastest transit corridor. This corridor serves two stations with in GO Rail network linking Mississauga and Brampton.

Trends have changed and after decades traditional suburban habitats in the Mississauga City Centre are moving to evergreen and ever growing urban centres. People are adopting newer life styles in order to change surrounding and for a more luxurious and comfortable life. These high-rise buildings are getting quite famous in Mississauga City Centre and the government is also facilitating the builders and developers to build more of these stylish residential units. Basically, developers are trying to attract people who are financially secure and self motivated and they want to enjoy city views from safer heights.

These kinds of residential units are cheaper and offer a lot of amenities such as exercise rooms, recreation areas, spas, clubs and much more. It is a different way of living as compared to an ordinary house.

Urban living style in Mississauga City Centre helps in forming great communities. Condo market is increasingly growing in Downtown Mississauga. These buildings are sprouting out not only from the Mississauga City Centre grounds but also in its neighbourhood.
Several condominium projects are planned and many already completed. It has been observed that Mississauga City Centre’s population has increased during and that’s why condo unit requirement is increasing day by day.

The metropolitan style of living provides various options to live care free. While living in a condo, you don’t need to maintain the garden by yourself or change roof shingles or shovel the drive way. The Condo Corporation is responsible for all the work related to the maintenance and the owners have to pay the maintenance fee.

The greatest benefit of Mississauga City Centre condos is that all the utilities are included under your monthly maintenance fee while all the amenities are included as well. Most of the well appointed amenities in the Mississauga Condos include luxuries such as indoor swimming pools with hot tubs, guest suites, large party rooms, private theatres etc.

Mississauga City Centre may be called as an urban community that offers high class life styles to its citizens. Landmark projects of the City Centre are Absolute Condos which will be the tallest that are located in the heart of Mississauga Downtown core, Capital Condos located at Square One City Centre and others including One Park, Solstice, and Tuscany Gates are one of the award winning condo projects found in downtown Mississauga.
